Advice and answers from the Advanced Web Ranking Team
Big milestone for AWR: Keyword Research is live
Meet Keyword Research, the add-on that turns Advanced Web Ranking into your go-to discovery tool. See every keyword, rival, and page earning visibility on Google.
Until now, Advanced Web Ranking was your go-to tool for tracking how visible (well-positioned) a website is in online search. With the Keyword Research add-on, it turns into a full discovery hub, giving you the bigger picture on keywords, competitors edging into your niche, and traffic-driving pages.
Key takeaways
The new Keyword Research add-on gives you a complete view over a domain’s performance (your own or a competitor’s) in organic search. It shows all keywords, competitors, and pages ranking on Google, not just those added for monitoring in AWR.
See every keyword a domain ranks for in top 50 results, track trends, and uncover new opportunities for growth across 100+ countries.
Discover competitors sharing the same SERPs as you, compare keyword overlaps, and see who’s likely to capture the biggest share of organic traffic.
Identify top-performing pages and understand how much visibility and traffic each one may generate.
Priced at $49/month (free with Enterprise Plus and higher), the add-on also includes a free mode, so you can test it before unlocking full access.
From tracking to discovering
Instead of just telling you where you stand for the set of keywords added for monitoring, Keyword Research shows you everything your website ranks for in Google’s top 50 organic results. You’ll get to see the complete universe of keywords connected to your domain or a competitor’s, the estimated traffic these keywords may drive, and how valuable that traffic would be if you had to pay for it in ads.
But it doesn’t stop there. You can peek over the fence at your competition, compare overlap, and spot where they’re outranking you. And because traffic isn’t built on keywords alone, you’ll also see which of your pages are doing the heavy lifting and how much of your estimated visits each page may attract.
Three angles, one big picture
The Research functionality is split into three powerful reports - Keywords, Competitors, and Pages - each giving you a different perspective on your performance on Google.
1. Keywords view: see your search universe in one place
The Keywords view is where your discovery journey begins. Instead of showing only how the set of tracked terms is performing, it opens the door to every keyword your website ranks for in Google, across more than 100 countries.

Right at the top of this report , you’ll find three key KPIs that tell the performance story at a glance:
Keywords shows how many search terms the selected domain, subdomain, subfolder, or URL ranks for in the top 50 positions in the selected country for the last month. It also includes the percentage change compared to the previous month, and mini trend bars covering the last 12 months.
Traffic estimates the number of organic visits the selected domain, subdomain, subfolder, or URL may receive in the current month from its top 50 keyword positions. The percentage shows the change compared to the previous month, while the mini chart illustrates the trend for the last 12 months.
Traffic Cost estimates the equivalent value of the selected domain, subdomain, subfolder, or URL’s organic traffic if it were acquired through ads. It is calculated using the keywords' total Estimated Visits and CPC. The percentage reflects the change compared to the previous month, and the mini chart shows the 12-month trend.
When you click on any KPI, a time evolution chart opens below, letting you track how the keyword count, traffic, or traffic cost has changed over time. You can switch between line and bar charts, adjust the timeframe (from one month to all time), or even break results down by position buckets (1, 2-5, 6-10, 11-20, 21-50) to see exactly where a website is gaining or losing ground.

Furthermore, the keyword table gives you the details behind the KPIs. For each term, you’ll see the following metrics:
Position shows the keyword’s ranking position on the latest update performed, which can be checked in the dedicated column.
Estimated Visits displays the estimated traffic each top 20 ranking keyword may generate in a month, based on its Search volume and Click Share score.
SERP Features highlights the special search results included on the SERP retrieved for each keyword, in addition to organic and sponsored listings.
Search Volume reflects the average number of searches each keyword has across the selected country, as reported by Keyword Planner for the last month.
CPC refers to the keyword’s average cost per ad click in the selected country, as reported by Keyword Planner for the past month.
URL represents the landing page found ranking on Google for each keyword at the recorded position during the latest update completed.
Last update is the date when the data for each keyword was last refreshed.

The real magic is how flexible the Keywords view is. For the table, you can:
Filter by position ranges (Top 3, Top 10, Top 20, Top 50) or by ranking changes (new, dropped, improved, declined, unchanged).
Surface keywords with specific SERP features such as AI overviews, featured snippets, sitelinks, images, videos, top stories, and more.
Apply traffic-based filters like Estimated Visits, Search Volume, or CPC to zoom in on terms that may bring the biggest impact.

Want to explore a new niche? Narrow by country, subdomain, subfolder, or even down to a single URL, and watch both the KPIs and table values update on the spot.

This way, you can slice the data exactly how you need it, whether you’re zeroing in on a new focus area, checking high-traffic terms, tracking SERP features you’ve won, or spotting keywords where your rankings just shifted.
Finally, when you spot valuable opportunities, you don’t have to leave the view, you can add those keywords straight into your AWR projects for continuous rank tracking.

2. Competitors view: know your real rivals
The Competitors view lifts the curtain on who you’re actually competing with in Google’s results. It’s not just about who you think the rivals are, it’s about who is showing up on the same SERPs as your target domain.

Here you’ll see the list of competing domains, along with how their keyword footprint compares to yours. You’ll learn who’s taking the biggest share of search real estate, how strong their overlap is with your target website, how much traffic they may receive each month and the potential value of their organic performance. Metrics include:
Competitor Level represents the percentage of keywords each competitor has in common with your target domain out of the total number of ranking keywords. It reflects how much of their keyword set overlaps with yours, helping you understand how closely you’re competing for visibility.
Competitor Keywords shows the total number of keywords for which each competing domain ranks in the first 50 results from Google, helping you gauge their overall reach. Clicking on the keyword count opens a detailed keyword view for that competitor, so you can explore exactly what terms they are ranking for.
Competitor Unique Keywords displays the keywords where each competitor ranks in the top 50 but your domain doesn’t, highlighting content gaps and new keyword opportunities to target.
Common Keywords reveals the number of keywords where both the competitor and the target domain rank for, helping you identify shared visibility areas and understand who’s winning those searches.
Target Unique Keywords shows the number of keywords the target domain ranks for that the competitor doesn’t, showing where your target domain already holds a competitive advantage.
Estimated Visits reveals how much monthly traffic each competitor may be pulling in from their top 20 positions, so you can spot which ones may attract the biggest share of organic visitors.
Value translates the organic traffic estimate into an equivalent PPC cost, giving you a sense of how much of a competitor’s organic reach is worth.
Intersection bar provides a quick visual summary of overlaps and gaps across keywords, showing the share of Competitor Unique Keywords (yellow), Common Keywords (green), and Target Unique Keywords (blue). It makes it easy to see at a glance how the keyword landscape is divided between shared terms and those unique to your target domain or each competitor.
You can filter the table data by Common Keywords, Competitor Level, or Estimated Visits to focus on what matters most to your analysis. Whether you want to explore the shared keyword landscape, identify closely competing domains, or spot those likely to attract the largest share of organic traffic, these filters help highlight key competitive patterns in seconds.

You can add competitors directly to your AWR projects. This lets you keep tracking their rankings and visibility side by side with your own, so you can track shifts in their performance.

3. Pages view: discover the real traffic heroes
While the Keywords report shows what your target domain ranks for, and the Competitors section reveals who else is sharing the SERPs, the Pages view takes you one level deeper, showing which URLs are actually driving visibility and potential traffic.
Like for the other 2 reports, you can use this view for your own website or explore any other domain to uncover the top-performing pages and how much they contribute to overall visibility.

For every ranking URL, you’ll see following metrics:
Keywords show the number of search terms for which each specific URL path (and all its subpaths) ranks in Google’s top 50 results.
Estimated Visits reflects the estimated monthly organic traffic each specific URL path (and all its subpaths) may receive from all its keywords ranking in the top 20 positions.
Estimated Visits % highlights the percentage of estimated organic traffic the URL may receive out of the total traffic of its parent domain.
But this isn’t just a list or ranking URLs, it’s a roadmap for action. Pages with high estimated traffic and a wide keyword spread are your proven performers, while those with traffic potential but lower keyword shares might be hidden gems ready to shine with a bit of optimization.
And since you can break data down by domain, subdomain, subfolder, or individual URL, you get a clear view of how different sections contribute to the bigger picture and where to invest your efforts.
Together, the three reports, Keywords, Competitors, and Pages, connect the dots between what people search for, closely related competing domains, and which pages may generate the most visibility and traffic, turning AWR into a full blown discovery engine.
