[SERP Features Tracking in AWR] Recipes

Learn what the Recipes result is, how it looks on SERPs and how to track its presence on SERPs to evaluate its impact.

What is the Recipes result?

The Recipes SERP feature makes it easier for users to discover food recipes within search results.

On desktop, it appears as a set of three rich cards, with an option to expand and view more. Each card displays essential details like the recipe name, an image, user ratings, preparation time, and a list of ingredients.

On mobile, these recipes are presented in an image carousel. The featured recipes are sourced from top-ranking organic pages, and clicking on a card directs users to the original website for the full recipe.

To start tracking these Google search engines, go to Project Settings > Search Engines and add them to your project.

When monitoring a Universal search engine, the positions of Organic entries alongside the URLs from Recipes, AI Overviews, Aggregator Units, Local 3-pack, People Also Ask, Images, and other types of results will be reported as ranking if found in the SERPs retrieved from Google. More information on Google's search preferences available in AWR can be found in this article here.

How can your website get featured in a Recipes result?

To improve your chances of getting featured in Google’s Recipes SERP feature, you can give a try to these tips:

  • Implement Recipe Structured Data

Use Recipe structured data to provide search engines with essential details such as ingredients, cooking time, calories, and reviews. This markup helps Google understand your content and display it in rich results.

It’s important to note that implementing Recipe structured data does not guarantee that your pages will appear in Google Search results for this feature. That also depends on various ranking factors, such as the quality of your recipe content, its ability to rank on the first page, user location, and the device used for the search.

  • Create Comprehensive Recipe Content

Ensure your recipe includes clear step-by-step instructions, a full list of ingredients, preparation and cooking times, serving sizes, and nutritional details. Adding helpful tips, substitutions, and variations can make your content more valuable to users.

  • Use High-Quality Visuals

Google favors content that includes engaging images and videos. Use high-resolution photos of your dish and consider adding a video tutorial to enhance user engagement and increase the likelihood of appearing in recipe carousels.

  • Optimize for User Intent

Use descriptive titles and headings that match common search queries. Incorporate keywords like easy, quick, healthy, or best in your recipe titles and descriptions to align with user intent and improve discoverability.
