When working in Local SEO, you surely know how search engine positions differ from one city to another, even if you don’t append the city name to the keyword search. So, if you have colleagues working remotely, or clients based in other cities or countries, the only way you can provide them with accurate results is to track the same keyword positions that they see in browser.

Hi everyone and welcome back to Advanced Web Ranking University. Today I’m going to show you how to track rankings for audiences that are based in different geographical locations.

As you already know by now, search engines personalize the results you see based on your location in the world.

For example, if you live in New York and search on Google for “dessert”, you’ll get the following results:

Local rankings in New YorkBut when your friend from Seattle searches for the same keyword, she will see a different set of results.

Local rankings in SeattleBut what if instead of your friend, the person who does the search is actually your client, or a colleague working remotely on the same campaigns with you? How will you explain these differences? And more important, how will you monitor all these keywords automatically, getting the same rankings as your remote audiences see in their browser?

With the AWR Cloud you can easily define a custom location for a specific city or country and track your localized results with pinpoint accuracy.

How does it work?

Simple! Just navigate to the Settings -> Search Engines menu and click on “Add search engine”. Let’s choose Google USA for this example. Here, click on “Add location search engine” and type the name of the cities you want to track, one location per line.

Now click on “Add” and wait until the AWR Cloud service gathers the keyword rankings. Let’s select the new locations we created.

Now if you look at the results, you can see that they are different for the 2 custom search engines. And if you are interested in the ranking changes for just one of these locations, simply click on the position and the AWR Cloud will display a graph with the evolution in time of the keyword position you are interested in.

Looks like my website is doing great now in the organic search from Seattle :). Now it may be a good time to start focusing on the next location that I’m targeting.

That’s about it for now! I hope you enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching!
