Chapter 5. Project Settings

You can change the settings of a project from the Project -> Project Settings menu. Here you can edit the list of search engines, Websites, keywords and other settings that are associated with the current project.

Selecting Search Engines

In the Search Engines tab of the Project dialog box you can select which search engines you are interested in. This panel is similar to the one in the New Project wizard. It will display all the available engines with a check box next to them indicating their selection status. Only the selected engines will be available in the application for data gathering or viewing.

Certain major search engines have local counter parts. Generally, there are three options:

  • regular web search

  • search only in pages written in that engine's local language

  • search only in pages physically located in the engine's covered area (country)

For each local search engine that has the options above, three entries will appear in the list, one for each option. This is so you can have the ability to query the same search engine with different search options in the same project. Example:

  • Google Germany.

This makes a regular web search in Google Germany (google.de)

  • Google Germany (German).

This searches only in pages written in German

  • Google Germany (Germany).

This searches only in pages located in Germany

For the search engines that support it, you also have another useful option:

  • results per page

This option allows you to set the number of results per page that you wish to retrieve. Just select the number of results from the drop-down list.

Request new Search Engine - if you need a search engine that is not available in the list, by using this button, a dialog box will appear with a text field where you can enter the search engine's name. We will do our best to add this search engine in future updates.

Search Engine Properties

While you are on the Edit search engines window, you can change the properties of a specific search engine. To do this just right click on the search engine you want to edit and setect [Properties]. Below you ca find the options available for each search engine.

Status

You can temporarily deactivate search engines from a project. The data for the inactive search engines is not removed, but rather hidden from the reports. Also, when updating the project, the inactive search engines are skipped from the update. Reactivating a search engine simply makes it visible and updatable again.

In order to deactivate or activate a search engine, go to the "Search Engines" tab of the "Project Settings" dialog box and double click on a Search Engine. In the new dialog box that appears, change its status accordingly and press OK when you have finished.

Importance

This option will allow you to change the importance of a search engine and display it at the top of the list when you order the list by Importance.

You can choose from five options available or set a customized value.
