Re: Disable Google Personalized Search
Hi AWR,
This topic has come up again with Google. Previously, it seemed that "personalized search" only affected users who were logged in. Now it seems that "personalized search" impacts users based on the past 180 days of their search activity - - even if they are not logged in. There is a way to "opt-out" of this, though. However, it seems this personalization seems largely tied to click activity within the search results, which I would imagine doesn't transpire with AWR's process - - unless you are manually testing rankings on the same computer with AWR installed. Just wanted to get some thoughts from the AWR team on this.
Thanks! - Wildman

Re: Disable Google Personalized Search
Hello,
As was stated in the web pages you posted, the personalized results depend not only on your IP address, but on the browser you use. My guess is that they do this "tracking" using cookies. As cookies are browser&user dependent, the queries AWR does act just like another user using another browser, and since no clicking is tracked (because AWR cannot click any links), the web history stays clean, so the results using pws=0 are the same as when you're not using it. Some people may see some results in their browser and say that AWR does not show the proper results, because thet are logged out and there are differences between what they see in the browser and what AWR shows. The fact is that AWR uses no personalization and the results are the real, first time with no cookies search results.
To answer HichamD's question... You can try the Google Unfiltered search engine available in AWR that uses this paramater with 0 value, and you will see that the results are the same.
I hope this clears things up.
Best regards,
Cristi
