Topic: low disk space - Windows Temp folder

We are running out of space on the server we have AWR server installed on.  We are getting low disk space alerts.  Our server admin team said that the folder C:Windows/Temp/ is up to 14GB in size.  There are tons of folders called appdb10471dir and prjtemp12846 (or similar...the numbers vary).  Are these folders required by AWR?

Also there are several XML files called srvprefsxxxxx (a series of 5 digits in the file name).  Are these also important?

The server admins want to clean out this temp folder.  Is that okay?

btw, I can't email support anymore.  both support@advancedwebranking.com and help@advancedwebranking.com are bouncing back to me.  frustrating.

Re: low disk space - Windows Temp folder

Our application can save temporary files and folders there, but they should be automatically removed. Anyway, you can delete them from there.

About the email address, please use a different one and tell us what the error message is.

Best regards,

Robert

Re: low disk space - Windows Temp folder

I tried from two different email addresses and this is the error I got:

This message was created automatically by mail delivery software.

A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed:

  pipe to |/home/awr/public_html/helpdesk/api/pipe.php

Are there any files that should remain?  I cleaned all of them out and AWR won't even startup now on the server!  Also application clients on other machines are freezing up when trying to connect to the server.

Restoring the files as we speak, because that was scary.  Don't know what to try next.

Re: low disk space - Windows Temp folder

The problem is not related to the files from the C:Windows/Temp/ folder. Maybe the AWR Server service is not started. Please send me all the ".log" files you have on the AWR Server database (by default this is located on C:\AWR User Data\) and also all the logs from one client computer, that encountered the freezing problems. Archive them all and send me the zip file at almsupport@advancedwebranking.com, maybe this accepts your emails. You can try to send them using a different email address, you didn't use before.

Looking forward for your files.

Best regards,

Robert

Re: low disk space - Windows Temp folder

okay, I emailed the compressed folders to you.  Hopefully you get them because they are 12mb and 8mb (client and server).  Hopefully you can help us solve this issue quickly.

Re: low disk space - Windows Temp folder

We have analyzed the error report and our developers suggest to restart the AWR Server service. So, please go to the Windows Services (go to Start -> Run and type services.msc), right click on the AWR Server service and stop it. Then, right click again ans start it.

Let me know if this solves the problem.

Best regards,

Robert

Re: low disk space - Windows Temp folder

nope.  We've actually tried that several times.  I've also reinstalled AWR 8.9 and tried that.  After successfully cleaning out the windows/temp folder, it's starting to fill up rapidly again.  I emailed you

Re: low disk space - Windows Temp folder

The application should save such files in this temp folder, only when you send an error report to us. But, when the error report is successfully sent to us, they should be removed.

Let me know how this works. Tell me the steps you do when they appear back all. This could help us duplicate this here and see what happens.

Best regards,

Robert

Re: low disk space - Windows Temp folder

I tried to FTP that project archive using the details you gave me last Friday and FileZilla couldn't connect to that FTP server.

Re: low disk space - Windows Temp folder

You can open a Windows Explorer window and add this URL into the Address section: ftp://caphyon_upload:caph1234@www.advancedwebranking.com

Then, just paste the archive there and it should be uploaded in our servers.

Let me know when it is uploaded.

Robert

Re: low disk space - Windows Temp folder

Just tried that, when I paste that address in Windows Explorer, it takes me to a web browser showing me ftp://www.advancedwebranking.com but I can't paste any folders or upload in there.  It might be something with our firewall that is preventing me from doing it.  I can try filezilla again, do you have to generate a new password and username every time?  If so, just email it to me and I'll try again.
