Google redesigned its SERPs recently, replacing in some cases the traditional Local listings with an interactive Carousel. This happens especially with local searches for hotels, dinning places, museums and other local businesses.
The new layout is placed on top of the search page, featuring a selection of clickable images designed to draw your attention, so getting your brand listed in the carousel can drive plenty of traffic to your website.

Hi everyone and welcome to Advanced Web Ranking University. Today we’re talking about how to track the carousel results in Google.
You might have noticed already that for some searches like “hotels” or “restaurants”, Google displays an interactive Carousel instead of the usual Places results. For example, if you live in Seattle and search on Google for “hotels”, here is what you would see:
The carousel contains images with local search results. When you click on one of the images, Google will start a new branded search for the local business you clicked on.
As you can see, being listed in the carousel can drive plenty of traffic to your website, but how do you know if your brand shows up in the carousel?
Easy! Just define a new search engine that will track Google universal search results, which also contains the carousel results.
To create the new search engine, simply navigate to Project – Search engines and click on Add. Here, select Add Google Location Search Engine. Let’s define a new location with the name of the city your local business is located in. Now, choose the Google Universal search engine and click on “Finish”.
That’s it. Now all you need to do is enter your brand name as an alias to your website. Just make sure you enter it exactly as it would appear in the carousel results.
Now you can update the rankings for the newly added search engine.
With the newly added Google Universal search engine, you can monitor all results, including organic listings, images, videos, news and carousel listings. Alternatively, you can choose to track only some of these listings.
Once your rankings have been updated, you can easily see your website’s position in the Google carousel.
Now, you’ll be able to easily create a new rankings report, or email the results to a friend or colleague.
